Program booklet of the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.

Introductory text by J. Hoven; cover design Peter Lutz. Richly illustrated with three maps, numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions of Dutch and foreign athletes, including the American swimmer Johnny Weissmuller (later known as an actor in the Tarzan films), as well as images of the city of Amsterdam.

During the opening ceremony, the Olympic flame was lit for the first time. The Parade of Nations began with Greece and ended with the country hosting the Olympics for the first time, giving birth to a tradition that is followed to this day. For the first time, athletics competitions took place on a 400-meter track, which would later become a standard. The Amsterdam Olympics were the first Olympic Games to be named the “Summer Olympics.” Coca-Cola also became the very first sponsor of the Games.
